Where is the Fix button in Windows Photo Viewer in Windows 7?
I love Windows 7. I’m using it now on my new primary laptop computer, and going through pictures getting ready for the holidays. And of course, a few of them need cropped, or red eye fixed, etc. Simple things that Vista included in the Windows Photo Viewer that was one of the things I loved about Vista vs. XP (yes, there were things improved in Vista over XP). But wait, where’d the “Fix” option go?
Eh?
Well it turns out Microsoft has pulled the functionality from the built-in Windows Photo Viewer in Windows 7 and moved it to the Windows Live Photo Gallery application. You can download the Windows Live Photo Gallery at http://download.live.com/photogallery and the good news is that it actually adds a few new features beyond what the Vista Windows Photo Viewer had (like Black and White Effects, Straighten Photo, and more).
Personally, I’d rather the OS not *lose* features when a new release comes out, but given the trouble MS has had in the past with anti-trust lawsuits, I can understand why they would play it safe when it comes to non-core functionality and try and push more of their “add-on” goodness into their Windows Live package (which also includes Windows Live Writer, which I’m using right now and which rocks!). However, I’m guessing if you’re reading this you’re an annoyed Windows 7 user who was wondering where the heck the Fix button went in the Windows Photo Viewer. Hopefully this helps you out!

Seriously wondering how you prefer this over Picasa. ;)

To be honest I don't like any of previous windows viewers and I don't like the latest. Those browsers eat too much memory which slows the whole process enormously. I like small and easy to use application like ACDsee or something like that.

Windows 7 has a default picture viewer called Windows Photo Viewer which is similar the one in Windows Vista. Even though Microsoft have changed the look and feel of Windows 7, Windows Photo Viewer has largely been untouched.

I have a question about the windows photo viewer in Windows 7. In the Vista version of Photo Viewer, there was a 'info' button at the top and when you click this button while viewing photos you get the file name, tags, and rating on the right hand pane. In this mode you can easily flip through your photos and rename them and tag them as well.
The Photo viewer in 7 is missing this 'info' button so you can no longer do this. To that point there is no easy way to rename your photos at all. While viewing photos in the viewer you have to right click the photo, select properties, and then the general tab, and then you can rename your photo.
WHY DID MSFT TAKE THIS AWAY????????????????????

"Oh, and on the subject of performance, even in the current builds, the Add Reference dialog comes up instantly. Woot!"
That's awesome news, and I agree I'd much Microsoft release a much closer to perfect product than release what's there and be rushing to have VS2010 SP1 immediately following it to clean up what wasn't able to be finished.

@Denny Gay
you can also just right click the file and click rename while not having the pic open in picture viewer. I don't understand how much easier you want it to be....
Just to note, if you select all the pictures you want to rename and then right click and select rename it will rename all the pictures the same thing with a number next to it. Makes doing galleries real quick especially if renaming them from a camera. Example: "New Name (1)"

Thanks. I got mad they removed it too. This thread helped me. However I have another problem...
I'm leaving this question here in the hopes that either the author of the original post, or someone reading it will have an answer for me. After recently upgrading to Windows 7, the Windows Photo Viewer behaves differently. I can no longer select multiple photos, and print several on one page. The Photo viewer still gives me the option of printing 2, 4, 9 or 36 up on a page, but only 1 photo (or repeats of 1 photo). WTF? Am I alone in this, or is this a new "feature?" Why would Microsoft remove functionality?

The Info button in Vista was a god send. Worth the whole upgrade of machine alone. Why oh why did they get rid of it in win 7 and win photo gallery live? Having a scan nearly full screen and being able to rename was bliss.......

I just got a new computer with Windows 7, I used Windowsxp. My icons disappeared on the bottom task bar replaced with another icon and everytime I click on that icon this message comes up. (Windows Photo Viewer can't open this picture because either the photo viewer dosen't support this file format or you don't have the latest updates to photo viewer). This comes up even when I click on Start button and any programs within. I was working with my pictures when this happened. I sure hope someone could help a 73 year old woman thats not to good with the running of computers. I can't even get into my e-mail, but I can click Start button and type in google and can get in on the internet.
